Streszczenie
Plantacje lasów o krótkiej rotacji są obiecującym narzędziem zmniejszenia stężenia dwutlenku węgla w atmosferze zaś otrzymywana z nich biomasa jest surowcem wykorzystywanym na cele energetyczne. Paulownia to jedne z najbardziej rozpowszechnionych rodzajów drzew występujących na plantacjach lasów o krótkiej rotacji. Jest to szybko rosnące drzewo liściaste rodzime dla Chin i Azji Wschodniej. Gatunki drzew z rodzaju Paulownia są dobrze przystosowane do szerokich zmian czynników glebowych i klimatycznych, rosną nawet na glebach uznanych za marginalne. Wszystkie gatunki wykorzystywane są do produkcji drewna przemysłowego, papieru, etanolu i biopaliw. Są szeroko stosowane jako drzewa parkowe i uprawy rolno-leśne. Liście paulowni charakteryzujące się wysoką zawartością białek, tłuszczów i cukrów, często wykorzystywane są jako pasza dla zwierząt i zielony nawóz. Dużym zainteresowaniem cieszy się krzyżówka Paulownia Clon In Vitro 112, którego nazwa handlowa to „Oxytree”, „BIO TREE”, „DRZEWO TLENOWE”. Przedstawione informacje świadczą o tym, iż paulownia jest niezwykle interesującym obiektem badań uwzględniających podejście interdyscyplinarne, obejmujące takie dziedziny nauki jak: rolnictwo, biologia, biochemia, fizyka i chemia. Niniejsza publikacja zawiera przegląd najważniejszych zagadnień dotyczących drzew z rodzaju Paulownia: występowanie, opis botaniczny, wymagania uprawowe i ich ogólne zastosowanie .

Abstract
Short-rotation tree plantations are considered as a promising tool for decreasing the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. On the other hand, biomass thus provided is used as the raw material for energy purposes. Paulownia, native for China and east Asia, are some of the most widespread types of trees occurring in short rotation plantations. The trees from this genus are extremely adaptive to a wide range of climate and soil factors, they grow even on soils recognized as marginal. All the species of Paulownia trees are used for the production of industrial wood, paper, ethanol and biofuels. They are widely used as park trees and agro-forestry plantations. Paulownia leaves are characterized by a high content of proteins, fats and sugars. They are also often used as green fertilizer and animal feed. The hybrid Paulownia Clon in Vitro 112, the commercial name of which is ,,Oxytree’’, ,,BIO TREE’’ and ,,DRZEWO TLENOWE’’, has gained a large interest. The presented information shows that Paulownia spp. variety is an extremely interesting object of interdisciplinary studies involving biology, biochemistry, physics and chemistry. This paper provides an overview of the most important issues of Paulownia tree: occurrence, botanical description, cultivation requirements, and its general application.
